5 Tips For A Successful Cocktail Hour

5 Tips For A Successful Cocktail Hour

5 Tips For A Successful Cocktail Hour

By Apple Mathay Bruselas

Cocktail hours are just as important as the reception proper but often times, it’s overlooked. This span of 60 minutes or less is more than just a waiting area for guests, it’s where they can lay back and catch up with friends and family while munching on hors d’oeuvres and having their first sips of the night. Cocktail hour sets the mood and warms up the guests for what’s to come. Welcome them to your magical reception with these 5 easy tips:

1. Drinks at the ready

Guests will undoubtedly be thirsty and hungry from the ceremony so instead of having an open bar, have waiters go around to serve drinks. This way, they won’t be crowding up in one area and it gives them more time to catch up with friends and family. You also don’t need many selections, save money and time by offering the basics: one kind of white wine, one kind of red, and a non alcoholic option such as iced tea or soda.

2. Appetizer Stations

Similar to the drinks, it’s best to avoid guests crowding over the food or even

forming a long line for just appetizers. To ensure easy access, have at least two

stations of hors d’oeuvres.

3. Utensil Free

One of the best ways to help guests enjoy cocktail hour is to have appetizers that don’t require utensils such as sliders, shrimp cocktail, prosciutto, a variety of cheese, mixed nuts, pastillas, and many more. It keeps it fuss free and after all, this isn’t the sit down portion.

4. Comfortable Seating

Although this isn’t the main reception yet, it’s good to provide some comfortable seating for guests that are tired from their high heels and, most especially, a comfortable place for the elderly.

5. Decor

This will be your welcoming to the party proper so remember to have the decor planned out! Guests will usually have their photos taken with their friends and family to kill time so have a good backdrop and good lighting. Nobody wants grumpy guests, so keep them busy!
